PARISH COUNCIL
The PARISH COUNCIL is a group of parishioners who assist the parish priest in the governance and mission of the parish.
It is typically a consultative body, not one with formal authority, but it plays an important role in the life of the parish.
Members are usually:
1- Appointed or elected from among the parish community.
2- Volunteers who are active in parish life.
3- Diverse in background to represent different groups within the church.
Key Functions of a Parish Council:
Advisory Role:
Provides advice and support to the priest regarding pastoral and practical matters.Offers insight from the lay community to help with decisions.
Pastoral Planning:
Helps in shaping the vision and mission of the parish.May assist in creating programs for evangelization, education, youth ministry, outreach, etc.
Community Building:
Encourages greater involvement of parishioners in church life.Fosters a sense of unity and shared responsibility.
Coordination:
Works with different parish ministries (e.g., liturgy, finance, education) to ensure collaboration and alignment.Listening and Communicating:
Acts as a bridge between the parishioners and the priest.Helps identify and respond to the needs and concerns of the community.
